In a recent collaboration, Rockwood partnered with a residential architecture firm to bring an elegant vision to life: a series of contemporary white oak doors with intricate brass inlays. This unique design element was an opportunity to add both modernity and sophistication to the natural warmth of white oak.

Rockwood explored alternative materials for the inlay but ultimately chose solid brass to deliver the exact look the client envisioned. Achieving this level of detail required more than just the right materials; it required skilled artisans.

Crafting The Details

Channels were cut into the doors to receive the brass, and a local metal shop hand-fit each piece so that they appeared continuous. The result is an inlay that adds dimension and elegance without overpowering the minimalist aesthetic of the door. Adding a bead molding around each panel brought a final, subtle touch, enhancing the visual flow with just the right amount of detail.

Harmony in Texture and Tone

Every step of the project was handled with Rockwood’s hallmark attention to quality, starting with the careful selection of white oak. Ensuring the wood grain and color are consistent across each slab is essential, though some minor variations in tone were acceptable for this project since the client planned to finish the doors on-site. Should exact uniformity be desired, Rockwood has the capability to source solid wood and veneers from the same lot, meeting any specifications down to the finest detail.
