Every great entry begins with strong architectural alignment. For this project, the design called for a front door that felt both stately and refined, able to complement the symmetry and stonework of the home. The result is an entrance defined by proportion, precision, and craftsmanship at every level.
Rockwood provided the complete millwork for the entryway, including the door, sidelights, fluted columns, and the custom mouldings that frame the opening. The result is a cohesive composition that feels true to the home’s historic architecture.
The door’s distinctive pyramid panels create a sense of depth and geometry, introducing subtle shifts of light and shadow across the surface. Within that pattern, the placement of the knocker posed a challenge. Rockwood developed a custom mounting base that allowed the solid brass European knocker to sit perfectly flat within the raised design. The hardware, created by Wilmette Hardware, adds another layer of refinement, pairing warmth and weight with the deep painted finish.
The door was built from Sipo, a tropical hardwood often chosen for its stability, density, and fine texture. Sipo is well-suited for painted exterior applications because it resists movement and holds detail exceptionally well, ensuring crisp profiles and long-term performance. Rockwood primed the door in-house before it was finished on site by the project painter. A solid bronze threshold anchors the design, providing a durable and visually striking base.
This project reflects the value of close collaboration and disciplined craftsmanship. Working with Blue Ladder Studio, Rockwood helped turn a series of thoughtful details into a unified, enduring statement at the heart of the home.
