Materials and Construction

Rockwood builds church doors from species suited to their environment and finish requirements. For exterior doors this can range from domestic species like white oak to weather resistant tropical species such as sapele and mahogany. We guide each selection based on exposure, appearance, and maintenance considerations.

Our doors are typically built with stave-core construction, which resists seasonal expansion and contraction to keep the door straight and true. The core is made from narrow, laminated wood strips that provide internal strength and stability. A thick layer of hardwood is then applied to each face, giving the door the appearance of solid wood with the durability to last for decades.
