Overview
Rockwood Door and Millwork is a second generation, family-owned custom door and millwork company of about 40 employees. We value craft, attention to detail, and a culture where people actually enjoy showing up. We are looking for a Wood CNC Operator who takes pride in precision work and thrives in a high-variety, custom production environment.
This is not a steel shop. If your CNC background is entirely in metal fabrication, this role will feel like a different world. Cutting speeds and material directions in wood are very different from metal. You will need to relearn how material reacts to tooling.
Duties
- Review daily jobs and stage materials before machining begins
- Operate the Onsrud 122C16C CNC router daily (5 x 10 dual table, single 4 axis spindle)
- Use AlphaCam and Mach Motion Router 2000 Software
- Execute nesting layouts and wood door part manufacturing runs
- Manage variable product placement because not every part starts at the same origin point
- Verify material thickness against program specs before every run
- Perform routine calibration checks and flag any machine issues immediately
- Communicate clearly with the team and adapt when jobs change mid-day
- Experience in Wood CNC experience strongly preferred
- Backgrounds in millwork, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or woodworking with machine operation will be considered
- Steel machining experience alone does not transfer well to this environment
- Familiarity with Alphacam or similar CAM software is a plus
Materials Used
- Hardwood, MDF, Plywood, Azek and PVC Sheets
What makes someone great here?
- Organized and detail oriented with a high-variety workload
- Can visualize parts and outcomes in their head before the machine runs
- Punctual and consistent because the machine and the team depend on it
- Learns from mistakes and is eager to try new approaches
- Asks questions instead of guessing
- Committed to learning the craft, not just running a program
- Brings a serving attitude and strong problem solving skils to the team
