Bethel Fellowship Church had reached the point where its existing facilities no longer served the congregation as well as they once had. After several years of working through capacity issues, church leaders moved forward with a major addition and renovation that included a new sanctuary, a new gym, classrooms, and other support spaces.
Because one of our Rockwood team members attends the church, we had a personal connection to the project from the start and offered our services.
Working with the builder and design team, we helped shape a door package around four key priorities: budget, beauty, durability, and transparency.
Stain-grade soft maple proved to be the right material for the project, offering smooth grain, strength, and a reasonable price point. Glass was incorporated where transparency and accountability were important, while solid wood doors were used where privacy mattered more. The doors and frames were also machined for the client’s hardware, helping bring a high level of coordination to the finished work.
The sanctuary entrance called for added design attention, both in appearance and in execution. Rockwood worked with the design team to create a look that related to the rest of the interior doors while incorporating a cross motif that helped distinguish the entrance to this place of worship.
That same opening presented a technical challenge as well. Because the arched jamb did not provide the flat, square surface required for a standard door closer, Rockwood analyzed the mounting locations and developed a fitted block at the right point along the arch. The result allowed the closer to be installed properly without disrupting the design or relying on unsightly metal brackets. It was a small adjustment, but exactly the kind of detail that affects how a building functions over time.
This project reflects the way Rockwood works best. Because of our connection to the church and the project’s close proximity, our team was able to engage early, build relationships, and work through key design decisions.
Bethel Fellowship Church now has a facility better suited to the needs of its congregation and better prepared for future growth.
