In a new architect-designed private residence near Washington, DC, Rockwood crafted a set of custom double doors that add warmth and subtle artisan detail to the space.

The original plan called for flush doors with an upholstered finish, but as the project progressed, the direction shifted toward a stain-grade finish to bring more depth and character. The updated design features Rift Sawn White Oak, known for its straight, even grain that creates a uniform look without the sweeping patterns seen in other milling styles. The combination of clean lines and natural texture adds a sense of balance and refinement.

To enhance the design, the doors feature a diamond match, sketch face veneer. This centuries-old woodworking technique draws attention to the wood’s natural character without overwhelming the space. The diamond pattern catches light subtly, giving the surface a dynamic feel that remains understated.
